Strap on your favorite automatic weapon and close range street howitzer and get to work. It's the classic 'assault rifleman' class with no frills. I think too I just sometimes really enjoy the simplistic playstyle of the ranger. Maybe limit it to support items or grenades for some extra versatility and you'd have a truly great class, imo. Having a third equipment slot would have been great. Their armors were too good to waste that slot on a vehicle (when as you say most of their vehicles were garbage). My biggest knock on the ranger was lack of weapon/equipment slots. I also found MLRA and the Emerald to be very sufficient for flyers or deroys. They have a very pleasing sound and they do work in underground stages especially. I used it a lot and it felt good to use.įor explosives, grenade launchers are great. With a clip of 80-something and a great fire rate, it was basically a super long range assault rifle. In a coordinated team, I could see it, but playing with randos online I found I wanted more sustained DPS when shit went sideways. I feel like EDF gets way too wild to methodically take single shots at targets. My playstyle doesn't lend itself to sitting back too much so I always opted for the Dunkel. Slaughters feel great to use before you get the powerhouse buster. There is no damage drop off, and it shreds king/queen bugs and greys like a hot knife through butter. They penetrate and have a good zoom making them pretty useful at longer range than you would expect from an assault rifle. The MA9/10 are awesome assault rifles that are great at staggering frogs or greys. As I have stated in this thread, 5 is my first game, but I still find that ranger excels in certain stages and has weapons that are more than adequate for a plethora of situations (in EDF 5). Relative to other EDF entries that may be true. I just can't agree that the ranger is shit.
